I just touched down in Toronto Canada for a weekend with my tribe – other VO folks! I’m excited to take the workshops, meet fellow VO friends, casting directors and agents. It’s gonna be a fun filled weekend!

Hello fellow voice acting compadres!
I just got an exciting email saying that I am a finalist in an animation voice over competition I entered and i’m invited to the live (online) virtual summit show this upcoming Sunday, whooohoo! I believe they chose 100 semi- finalists and the grand prize is a chance to voice a character in an original animated show! Very cool. Here is all the deets for the summit event:

Well…good luck, to me! Looking forward to getting silly with other voice actors around the world 🙂

A couple of weeks back, I had a chance to audition for some talent agencies through On The Mic Training as a part of my Diploma Program in Voice Over. The whole experience went really well and I feel I did some really great work showcasing my talents and my energy. I hope that I caught the attention of some talent agents across Canada. It would be so cool to be represented by an agent in Toronto, i’m sure the VO industry is booming out there because TO is wayyyyy bigger than Vancouver. Here in Vancouver, I am represented by Connekt Creative, they are a boutique talent agency that has a growing VO department and recently, I have been getting some really juicy auditions thanks to my agent, Melanie Eng.
But, back to my title question, why voice over? That question was asked during our agency showcase and my answer was, to sum up what the art critic Jerry Saltz said: if you don’t have to be an artist, don’t be. Being an artist is like being a boxer, you must only do it if you truly simply cannot do anything else with your life. As scary as that may sound, I feel that statement deep within my soul. I have always been someone who is very very expressive and loves to preform and no matter what I have done in my life, whether it be career, time with friends, family and even in school, i’ve always found an excuse to perform. So naturally, voice over is a career for me that I know I can excel at because it’s that embedded within me. As RuPaul would say, I want to show the world my uniqueness, nerve and talent through voice over!

Yesterday was On The Mic’s Agency Showcase where our cohort performed (via zoom) for voice over agencies around Canada. I really felt great about my performance and i’m just overall proud of what i’ve accomplished at On The Mic and with voice over thus far! I was super excited to see the other day now I am officially on the “Behind The Voice Actor’s” website! https://www.behindthevoiceactors.com/Jennifer-Tiles/Â Â (honestly, my 13 year old self would be sort of super giggly at that thought!) It’s been a long journey and I am so happy i’ve been able to invest in my performance and education as well as have the essential support needed to enter into this field of work. My journey is far from over, even though i’ve been a professional voice actor since 2016, I feel like my journey is just beginning….
For my audition, one of the sides I performed was one of my favourite female soldiers, the one and only, Sarah Conner. I took no prisoners, except for Miles Dyson. 🙂
